A SNAPSHOT OF VEGIBEC'S HISTORY
The story of VEGIBEC is that of two brothers united by the land. Raised on a farm acquired by their parents, Berchmans and Pascal Lecault grew up with a passion for agriculture. What began as a few tomato and strawberry greenhouses has become a large-scale market gardening business, whose reputation extends beyond Quebec's borders.
Guided by their father's agricultural aspirations, the two brothers quickly invested in the family farm, which they developed by diversifying their crops: zucchini, peppers, celery, cauliflower, lettuce... Today, VEGIBEC, one of the largest zucchini producers in Canada, supplies the country from east to west through direct customers such as major grocery chains, and through distributors supplying a repertoire of major food brands. Our products are also found on American markets through an authorized and efficient distributor.
Their success also relies on a solid network of foreign workers from Guatemala and Mexico, welcomed in a humane and respectful environment. Pascal manages operations while Berchmans takes care of the crops, both of them aware of climate challenges, global pressures, and the question of succession. Their complicity, their determination, and their local roots are the key to this wonderful agricultural adventure.

1990s
In its early days, the company, then called Les Fermes maraîchères Berchmans & Pascal Lecault, had only seven workers from the Montreal area and grew products that have since disappeared from its repertoire. By the middle of the decade, it began producing zucchini, lettuce, and cauliflower and started its long-standing collaboration with workers from Mexico.

2004
Fermes maraîchères Berchmans & Pascal Lecault have begun a rewarding and fruitful collaboration with workers from Guatemala, a collaboration that has now lasted for over two decades.

2009
During its evolution over the past decades,Les Fermes maraîchères Berchmans & Pascal Lecault changed its name to Les Jardins Vegibec Inc., a name that merges the words "vegetables" and "Quebec" to emphasize its local roots and sustainable vision.
